Living among gardens
Portugal, Montijo 

City among Gardens is a project, which reimagines the center of Montijo—now dominated by empty streets, few trees, and many parking lot - into a vibrant, green urban landscape. Inspired by Montijo's historical layers and current harsh weather conditions, I focused on the sun-exposed city center. I proposed transforming abandoned buildings into gardens, creating a continuous park system that connects to surrounding cities via a coastal cycling path. A key gesture is reviving Montijo’s original settlement road and integrating it with new woonerfs. My detailed plot lies between the main square and the central park, flanked by two churches. Here, I envision affordable housing with a community center, surrounded by organic four different atmospheric gardens - spaces to live among nature. The former inactive building becomes an open gate, offering a new neighborhood connection. Proposal is flexible, rooted in greenery, and focused on connecting people, history, and landscape.
